Google Chrome

Google has decided to enter the internet web browser market with Chrome. Google has recently released v1.0 of the browser and Internet Safety Center see a lot of promise in the initial version of Chrome. Chrome is free and can be downloaded at http://www.google.com/chrome. Internet Safety Center has created a quick reference guide on Chrome.

When you open Chrome for the first time this is the first page you will see. You will see that it doesn’t have a lot buttons and a basic look. This is why Internet Safety Center recommends Chrome for only more advanced internet users. We feel Chrome is worth downloading and

How to set the home page

In the upper right click on what Internet Safety Center calls the wrench. Scroll down to options. In the top box called On Startup move the dot to Open the following pages. Click on Add and then enter the website you want as you homepage and hit Add.

Import favorites

To import your favorites from Internet Explorer click on the wrench in the upper right corner and scroll down to Import Bookmarks & Settings. Checkmark everything you want to import and hit import.

Clear Private and Personnel Data

To clear private data like cookies, passwords, browsing history, etc select the wrench and scroll down to Clear browsing data. Internet Safety Center recommends checking all boxes and then hit Clear Browsing Data. We recommend doing this monthly.

Most Visited Feature

One of the built in features of Chrome is the Most visited feature. When you visit a website several times Chrome will remember that site. Then just click on the page and Chrome will open that webpage.

View Page History

Everybody that has used the internet has viewed a website on day and then the next day can’t remember the website address. Chrome like all other browsers will store a week or more of website you have visited. To view your browsing history hit Ctrl – h.

Conclusion

Chrome is one the many internet browsers you can use for browsing the internet. The browser is free to download and takes about 2 minutes to install. Internet Safety Center does like several of the features and speed of Chrome, but it isn’t very user friendly. If you are looking for an alternative for Internet Explorer, Chrome is worth looking at.
