CyberAttacks and National Security
Most people don't realize the nation is under attack not just from terrorist. While many people think war is all about guns, planes, and tanks. A new war is actually going on under the radar. This new war is in the form of cyberattacks.
A cyberattack is when a computer or computer system gets attacked. What hackers or enemies of that state are trying to do take down networks. These attacks are not going after people but after the main infrastructure of a country. This is the best way to start to take down a society. People take for granite all the convinces of modern day life. What would happen if you tried to turn a light on and nothing happened? Image no cell or internet service? Image going to sink and no water coming out.
Attacking the infrastructure means going after water, power, and gas plants. In the recent years the attacks against Americans power grid has grown astronomically. These attacks are looking for a weakness in the system to take down the power. Try to image all the power being lost on the east of west coast and not being restored for weeks.
The second area of attacks have been going after the water systems. These attacks again are looking for ways to shut the down the water supply. Image having to boil or go and get water everyday. People are just not thinking about the daily convinces of life and how it would be disrupted.
I really wish the US would start to take cybersecurity seriously. Countries are increasing going after our infrastructure and we need to protect it before it is late. We can't get serious about this after something happens. If don't start to prepare now before it is to late then who knows what will happen.
Here is a great article about how the US failed a cyberattack test.
