Protecting America infrastructure and Patch Tuesday
Congress today pass a new bill to raise the awareness of cyber security and education of internet safety. The bill is designed to provide additional funding for increasing research and developement of new cyber security software and methods on protecting Americas infrasture. This bill also comes after over 50 of the US Senators website were hacked over the last week. The pages were defaced and picutes on the pages were removed or replaced. The bill also called for a standard on how to store customer information and computer security for companies that collect or hold private information. The bill is also designed to get companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple to work togethor to stop cyber attacks. Google has already announced plans to work with other companies to research and patch holes in software. They are also offering $500 for anybody who can find security holes on the Google Chrome browser.
Tomorrow is patch Tuesday for Microsoft. They will be releasing several patches to fix over 26 vulnerabilites. The patches are designed to keep Windows at the highist levesl of security. The majority of patches are designed to stop hackers from remotely taking over systems or denial of service attacks. The patches will be released tomorrow morning and if you have automatic updates on it will download and install the patches. Don't forget to also verify that all anti-virus software and anti-spyware are up to date.
