External Hard Drives have become a common backup storage device. There are two types of external HDs USB powered and standard AC powered drives. The USB powered drives are portable and don’t require an external power source.

- Destroyed in house fires or natural disasters

External Hard Drives have dramatically come down in price over the last several years. External drives now come with capacities of 2TB and USB powered external drives have capacities of 500GB. External HDs are a great way to backup music, pictures, and documents. The downside to external drives are they can fail like normal computer hard drives.
