Identity Theft

Shell annouced a case identity theft today what could be an major problem for the company. A employee stole the records of over 170,000 employees of the company. The hacker took the data from an internal database. The information was then sold to an activites group such as human rights and environmental.

The majority of people think that hackers break into computer systems and steal information. The real true is that that 90% of all hacking comes from the inside. Employees get mad at their employeer and turn around steal from them. They take this information and sell it to others.

This is one of the reason why wish more companies would make computer and internet safety a bigger priority. Companies today just don't understand of believe that someone inside the company would actually steal from them. The truth is employees are the number one cause of internal identity theft.

In the last severl years we have heard more and more companies report records have been stolen. It seems that everymonth we hear about a bank or credit card processing company reporting records lost or stolen. Again, the majority of these cases come from internal employees taking the data and selling it online.
