Internet browsers are software applications that allow people to browse the internet. Internet browsers allow internet users to check email, news, play games, and surf the net. The majority of internet users don’t know that they have several internet browsers to select from. The most popular internet browser is Internet Explorer but most internet users don’t know that the Internet Explorer is just one of many to select from. Internet Safety Center has found several free internet browsers such as Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Chrome. Internet Safety Center will give you a quick review of these browsers and our recommendations.

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox has quickly become the second most popular browser on the internet. Firefox is an open source browser that developers all around the world work on. The best part of Firefox is that it is completely free and can be downloaded at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html. It takes about 30 second to download and the installation is quick and easy. It will also import all your bookmarks, cookies, and passwords. Internet Safety Center has also discovered that when security flaws are found that updates are released within days and not months like Internet Explorer. We have found that Firefox is more reliable, faster, and is more secure than Internet Explorer.

Chrome

Chrome is a new internet browser that was developed by Google and is free. Chrome 3.0 is the latest release of the browser and can be downloaded at http://www.google.com/chrome. Internet Safety Center finds some promise results from Google’s entry into the browser market. It is fast and we have very few issues with the program crashing and closing out. We have found that Chrome does have a learning curve and not everything is easy to find like bookmarks, cookies, and browser settings.

Opera

Opera is another free browser that was developed by Opera Software and can be downloaded at http://www.opera.com/. The browser has a clean design and is very easy to understand and use. One of the features that Opera has is the speed-dial feature. The speed dial feature allows you to set 9 websites for quick access. Opera also have several widgets you can add to the browser for playing games, getting the news, and social networking. Internet Safety Center does recommend downloading Opera and giving it a try.
