Internet Safety
It has been an interesting week for internet safety and Identity theft. Microsoft has announced that they are going after botnets. A new ZUES trojan botnet has been hitting computers all over the internet. Internet security experts say that over 75,000 world wide are now infected with this botnet. Microsoft has taken the step of terminating these domains to but off the trojan. Microsoft want to turn off these domains to create a greater since of internet safety and security.
Internet Safety starts with computer users installing and scanning computers for infections. Installing anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware software will stop this botnet. Products like F-Secure, Norton internet security, Kaspersky, and Trend Micro all have software designed to detect and stop this botnet. All internet user should verify they have the latest security updates and run a full system scan.
Facebook has announced another security screw up. Facebook stated then users started to send out messages they were redirected to the wrong people or exposed to everyone on the internet, This is just another security flaw for Facebook. When the new security features were put into place several facebook users reported changes. My profile was changed to full internet access. Social networking sites need to do a better overall job on security and safety.
Internet safety and security needs to be taken more seriously not only by internet users also by corporations. They are storing and more data about people and protecting that data doesn't seem to be a priority. All computer user need to have an internet secuurity suite or anti-virus software installed. The only way to create a secure internet is to have everybody protection.
Identity Theft
Security experts now say that identity theft is the fasting growing crime on the internet. Identity theft is growing at 20% per year and is growing faster and faster every year. Criminals are creating fake website to steal user names and password ever day. They also send emails all the time and saying bank accounts have been compromised or someone has tried to access your account.
The biggest thing everybody can do to prevent identity theft is to not click on links inside emails. These links are taking people to fraudulent websites. If you get an email from a bank or credit card company read it and don't click on anything. Open a new browser and type in the bank or credit card company web address.
If you are worried about watching your identity then a service like LifeLock or TrustedID are good choices.
