Internet Safety
This week for internet safety has been interesting. Microsoft has annouced that would like to have an internet tax for cyber security. They want to have all internet users taxed so help prevent and destroy cyber attacks. The internet is full of computer that are infected with spyware, malware, and viruses. These infected computer are causing issues all across the internet. All computers on the internet need to have anti-virus or internet security software installed.

We here at internet safety center don't believe this is a good idea. Our concern is that if a tax was put on internet users would that decrease the efforts of security experts. What would be the benefit of patching and fix security holes when internet users have to pay to clean it up. We think this might be an effort to release the responsibility to consumers and not their product.

Education is the best thing we can do to create a secure internet. When people understand the dangers and know how to stop these dangers it benefits everybody. Knowing how to stop or prevent viruses, spyware, and malware is a life time education. When the basics of internet security are taught they now know how the necessary steps that must be done every month. Once people starting doing this monthly it becomes a lifelong habit.

Spain announced today that they have arrested 3 people in connection to a massive botnet. The botnet has infected over 12.7 million computers and infected over half of the fortune 1,000 companies and more than 40 banks. This botnet was created to get account information and take funds from accounts.
This is another reason why internet security and safety software is mandatory on all computers. Leaving a computer without anti-virus software is just asking for identity theft, fraud, or have bank accounts and credit cards stolen. We have a variety of options like F-Secure, Norton, and Kaspersky for you to choose from. All of these are designed to stop botnets.

Medical Identity Theft
Over the last several years more and more cases of medical identity theft have started to occur. With the push to make medical records electronic security has to be at the fore front. We have far to long put security on the back burner in software development. For medical records everything must be done around computer security with no exceptions.

According to the latest reports roughly 5.8% of American adults have had medical records stolen. The average cost of have medical identity theft is now $20,160.00. The reason why it is so expensive is because most people don't see the theft for 6 months or more. This than makes you responsible to the charges.

We can't stress enough that internet safety and computer security must be take seriously. It needs to be the number one priory for all companies.
